Sailboats, which were designed through adding wind’s energy force onto boats that were constructed by mankind utilizing water’s buoyancy, were especially assimilated by countries with coastlines and employed for transporation and combat purposes until the second half of the 19th century, during which the sport of sailing emerged through sailboat races that were organized on rivers, lakes and seas. Having gradually developed until today, sailing became a sport of struggle mostly against the force of nature and took its place within the Olympic Games as well. However, it’s unfortunate that sailing is commonly perceived as a summer sport, when actually one can very well practice sailing all year round, including winter. All that one needs is the proper know-how, equipment and gear.

Interest towards sailing in our country began around 1850s, but long gaps of inactive periods took place due to the circumsatnces of the era. Along with the foundation of the Turkish Sailing Federation in 1957, sailing was once again revived in our country, leading to world titles that we are proud to have won in recent years.

As Istanbul Sailing Academy, our objective is to be able to reach larger crowds and get more and more people aquainted with the sport of sailing.
